An entertaining Autumn in store for Salisbury

Tomorrow (1st September) is the meteorological start of Autumn, which means we get to look forward to the new season at Salisbury Playhouse and Salisbury Arts Centre.

Wiltshire Creative has a packed Autumn programme in store for lucky audiences.

Whether you want spooky drama, laugh-out-loud comedy or live music, they have it.

Looking for things to do in Salisbury? Here’s our guide to the events you’ll want to put in your diary:

The popular comedian, Jenny Éclair makes a stop in Salisbury to entertain audiences on her latest tour - Jenny Eclair: Sixty! (FFS!). In this standup show Jenny focuses on the experience of turning 60, with Nordic walking poles, bowel screening and knitting all getting a mention. If you want a night of laughter, be at Salisbury Playhouse on 17th September. There are very limited tickets left so book now!

On the 23rd and 24th September there will be two evenings of live music to raise money for Ukrainian refugee families in the Wiltshire area. Gypsy Jukebox, The Gambling Hearts and Ribble just some of those performing for the special event. Book for both the Friday and Saturday Night and receive £3 off! We have more details here.

If you like spooky stories, you’ll love When Darkness Falls. Starring Olivier nominated actor and former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan, the spine-chilling ghost story delivers a twisted, terrifying, and thrilling tale that will “leave you cowering in your seat.” (The Guardian) You can see it at Salisbury Playhouse 27th September to 1’s October.

The Barnstormers comedy nights return to Salisbury Arts Centre for another run of shows that will introduce three more top acts from the London Comedy Circuit and beyond. The monthly dates are: 30th September, 28th October, 25th November and the festive show will take place on 16th December. These are always really popular events so we advise early booking!

Between the 4th and 8th October, an absurdly funny new play by Ian Hislop (star of Have I Got News For You) and Nick Newman comes to Salisbury Playhouse. SPIKE delves into the inner workings of one of our most unique and brilliantly irreverent comedy minds – Spike Milligan. It’s had great reviews with spyinthestalls saying: “A feast of nostalgic fun that will delight audiences of all ages". See if for yourself this October!

The people behind Award-winning West End sensation The Play That Goes Wrong, is bringing their latest show to Salisbury from 18th October to 5th November. Good Luck, Studio is their sharp-shooting (and totally hilarious) new comedy show which follows the producers of a TV show as they realise the actors they have employed are terrible and they have less than an hour left to wrap a shoot. During the October half-term SHIFT Social returns with another lively event for youngsters. ‘I Was Born In The Wrong Decade’ is produced in association with Wiltshire Creative’s Young Ambassadors, a group of young people aged 14 to 19 which makes sure there is relevant and exciting events for young people in the local community. Join them on 22nd October for a night of music and dancing. Fancy dress is encouraged - pick your decade and go wild!

As we head closer to December, there’s a festive feel to the programme. The Salisbury Playhouse Panto is back this year, and everyone is invited to the ball! Cinderella will run from 26th November 2022 to 8th January 2023. Packed with songs to sing along to, plenty of adventure and sparkle, this rags-to-riches tale will be a festive treat for all the family. Make sure you get the best seats in the house by booking early. Click here for more.

Olivier Award winner, Guy Masterson, will also be helping to create some Christmas magic again this year, with A Christmas Carol at Salisbury Arts Centre. Famed for bringing multiple characters to vivid life, Masterson gives us Scrooge, Marley, the Fezziwigs, the Cratchits, Tiny Tim et al in a riveting, one-man performance. You can see this not-to-be-missed festive show from 8th to 10th December.
