Salisbury is full of independent traders and artists, producing an array of unique gifts that make ideal Christmas gifts. And, in the run up to Christmas, Fisherton Mill in Salisbury city centre is bringing together over 30 small craft businesses for six December shopping days making it easy to find presents for friends and family.

Each day a small but carefully curated outdoor Makers Market will feature seven vendors under a covered decorated pergola in the courtyard of the iconic Victorian grain mill. Safety protocols will be in place to allow unhurried shopping and access to the regular courtyard shops.

The Mill’s owner, Deborah Fox, hopes this will be an alternative to Salisbury's traditional Christmas market which has been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We were already planning to do something special this year,” says Deborah, “and once the city market was cancelled we accelerated our plans with the encouragement of our customers. Buying online may have its benefits but nothing beats the Christmas cheer that an outdoor shopping market can offer and we are fortunate enough to have fantastic contacts with local artists and craftsmen.”

Among the diverse range of participants will be Silky Saluki Designs by local artist Amelia Burgess and named after her Saluki dog. She creates unique, hand drawn, watercolour and ink designs for a range of cards, tea towels and aprons that will make the perfect present.

Fiona Ingram is a Dorset based teacher and jewellery designer with a passion for metal clay. Her work in silver and bronze, inspired by the local landscape and symbolism of Eastern and tribal jewellery, would make a unique gift.

Winged Hare sells bold and beautiful hair accessories in an ever expanding range of patterns and textures, often upcycling vintage and one-of-a-kind materials, for the everyday or that special occasion.

Among the artists exhibiting will be Hampshire based Annmarie Thomas working mostly in acrylics, painting abstracts and semi-abstracts inspired by nature.

The Fisherton Mill Makers Market is scheduled for Saturdays 5/12/19 December and 17/18 /21 Dec 10am-5pm each day and run alongside the Gallery’s ‘Seasonal Treasures’ and gift shop.
